Gold Tips & Tricks

Whether you think fashion is the true end-game or you just want insanely strong gear to run content, gold is your tool to get there in Mabinogi. If you don’t have it in either case, you’re simply not getting that piece of gear or that fabulous and sexy outfit you want. How easy it is to make gold in Mabi is really up to your perception on the matter and a slight bit of skill. In updating this general guide, I’ve added in some sections that might be of use to newer players or even veteran players who are struggling. I’ve also removed a lot of the ones from previous versions that have not aged well.

Hoard Everything you see.

If you see people dropping items, run to attempt to pick them up. A lot of times players will drop quite valuable items thinking it’s either trash or not valuable. These can be gems, materials, outfits, gear, etc… A lot of times you’ll find that these items sell on the auction house for a decent chunk of gold or at the very least since you got it for free you can sell it for any price at all and get free gold. Over time, you’ll learn what’s valuable and what’s not worth picking up at all but until then hoard it all!

Check For Deals!

Sometimes the general player shops will be selling an item at well below Auction House price. If there’s a significant difference this can be an easy flip in profit for you. Especially items that you’ve sold for higher prices in the past. Other times you might find players advertising sales for bulk items at a lower price over either party adds or bugles. It can be worth weighing the option of buying them if you’re producing something that uses that item as a component. Sometimes players are also advertising items they’re buying and if you just so happen to have a stock of the item in question it’s near guaranteed gold for you once you confirm the sale. It helps to keep a watchful eye for opportunities.

Mabinogi gives a handful of easy gold farms that everyone can take advantage of such as the ones listed below

  • Dan Test Spam
  • Fynni Blossoming Trade-ins
  • Selling Fynni Whistles
  • Farming
  • Fixed Dye Synthesis
  • Selling VIP Items

The Dan Test Farm

Setting up a Dan test farm is something any player is capable of doing. All you have to do is pick an easy Dan Test that you can reasonably do and do it twice per day on all your characters. If you’re good and consistent you should be able to get 10 Advancement Badges per character from each test. The badges are necessary for combo card re-rolls so they will often be in demand and even with rampant undercutting there are still plenty of players who need them in massive amounts. You generally don’t have to wait very long to get a sale. You’re likely to sell in less than 1-3 days. If you’re still not able to sell them then all the better because you just get more for each day you do the tests.

Fynni Blossoming Trade-Ins

Trading in fynni pet whistles to Fionnait in Mag Mell for gold is well worth the setup. It’s a decent payout of guaranteed gold if you go through the setup to get Fynni Blossoming on all your characters and get 4 cages on each homestead. You’ll get up to a max of 40k gold per red whistle for the first 30 whistles on the entire account after which you’ll only get the gold leaf-pine cones. That’s an easy 1.2mil per day that only requires minimal maintenance to upkeep and on top of the gold you get gold leaf pine cones that you can buy Cosmos Extracts with to either sell or make into Harmonious Cosmos Powders to sell to others. A Fynn Bell can also be reforged for great lucky success item count increase. This means that at r1 fynn crafting you can make extra Harmonious Cosmos Powders at a 15% proc chance so you can make even more gold from each Cosmos Extract. Additionally, you can sell the overstock of whistles to other players either on the auction house or in a general shop.

Farming

With the recent VIP revamp this option is now available to all players. You can lease a plot of land from Blatt in Taillteann and tend to a crop that you then sell to him at harvest time for gold. The gold you get is variable but its an option if you really want to do it. I’d recommend reading up on it on the wiki if you’re not familiar by clicking here for more information.

Fixed Dye Synthesis

If you have Synthesis at a decent enough rank to attempt Fixed Dye Synthesis then can be quite a lucrative roll of the dice. If you don’t have a Magical Dye Well, buy Glittering Dye Bottles from other players off the auction house. The Synthesis recipe is 2 Fixed Dyes, 1 Garbage Herb and 1 Unknown Ore. If you can gather the last two materials on your own then the only cost is the Glittering Dye Bottles (assuming you buy them from players). You commonly get blues, pinks, oranges, purples and browns some of which can sell in general shop quite well and any junk dyes you can either resynth or sell off. If you plan your math right and get at least a few good color dyes that sell then the system refuels itself. You can even get an occasional pure black or white dye to sell for over 1mil or more depending on the current market.

Selling VIP Items

This one is pretty straightforward. You can sell the Regular Dye Ampoules and Full Recovery Potions from VIP. Regular Dye Ampoules are always in demand and from time to time are an excellent market to trade in. Full Recovery potions have a lot of value to players as they heal you up from everything and since renown made it a cakewalk to get over 1k HP , MP and Stamina it far surpasses the player made potions from Potion Making. You can also farm Adventure Seals and buy them from the Seal Shop if you don’t have VIP or in addition to what you get from VIP.

Phantasmal Sight

The Phantasmal Remnants you get from Monsters under Phantasmal Sight can be sold to other players if you’re not using them to power your own techniques. You may only get 30 remnants max (33 if you have Proficient on your shoes) per use but in 20 minutes you can easily get over 100. Phantasmal Sight also has the ‘gold/orange orb’ effect which nets you a Huge Lucky Gather on certain items you’re gathering. This means you can farm more materials to sell to others or craft bigger ticket items to sell. Works really well with Dye Synthesis because you can get Garbage Herbs from the Central Complex of the Nature Reserve easier and unknown ore from the first room of the Hillwen Mine. You can also have a Far Darrig collect Phantasmal Remnants while you level during Baltane Missions like Nowhere To Run.

How to Farm: Nowhere to Run Baltane Mission

This is the usual method to get from level 60 to 150 (or 200 during Baltane Mission Level Uncap Events) in less than 30 minutes. You get gems and leathers if you have ingredient hunting. You can also farm Phantasmal Remnants, get rare materials like broken guardian items or demonic weapons, and you can further profit by buying prism boxes if they’re available and near instantly converting them as you level to sell for higher later. The Cheap and Common Leathers can be turned into Glyphwright materials to sell. The Fine and Finest Leathers can be used or sold for gold to other players. With the Erg revamp, selling Fine Leather can be quite profitable.

Mind your taxes!

Always be aware of where you lose profit to taxes and choose where you sell on purpose rather than on accident. Auction House is a 5% tax (4% with vip) selling in a general shop is an effective 1.99% tax. Also be aware of repair fees. You can mitigate them by not fully repairing your gear. Why repair 20 or more points if the run only burns 3? You can also use Magical or Engineer’s on your items to reduce repair costs. You can also use cheap versions of the gear and take advantage of the Free Repair and 90% reduced repair cost events. You can also look into getting your hands on some of the Perfect Free Repair Kits if it’s cheaper.

Train your eyes to see value where other's can't

Simply honing this skill is the core of what makes it so that you’re always making gold. Events are good opportunities to cash in on stores of items you may have had collecting dust for a while. Items that are often considered junk may be part of a crafting recipe for a lucrative item. For example, fragmenting silks which are often cheap can lead to getting tons of thin thread you can turn into tough threads which players need in bulk for Erg upgrades or you could buy Fine Silk for almost nothing, get Fine Fabric and a Bottle of Water and synthesize Fog Silk which players need for Glenn gear. Also look for value in items you have by really considering who wants it and why do they want it. It can be an answer as simple as because it’s not easy to get or because it’s from Erg but if you’re selling something you should know who wants it and why rather than just having people advise you on what to sell and not thinking on it any further.

Create value to stand out and put a pretty bow on your items

Let’s say you’re on the Auction house looking for combat gear. What are two things that tend to get your attention outside of the price? Color and whether or not it has upgrades you want. You can use those same to things to your advantage when selling things. A bright blue colored staff will catch the eye much better than a row of solid gray ones. For more discerning eyes and people who aren’t after the cheapest item you can create a more attractive item than the rest by simply putting in the work to upgrade it for them. This reduces competition and allows you to charge more because the item you’re selling is by definition better than the clean ones.

More information is always helpful!

The more you know about an item the better. You can get a general idea of how often an item sells by looking at the “cases” sold on the Auction House. A case can be anywhere from 1 all the way up to the max bundle size of the item in question but seeing how much an item is selling can give you an indication of that item being valuable or not. You can also try listing an item you’re selling at multiple prices at the same time to gauge how high you can push the price before people stop buying. If they buy up to the highest price version of the item then you know you can try your luck at going for the higher price. The Auction house now even gives you information what the top 20 items selling in each category simply by clicking the new “Search Popular Items” button.

Trade items like stock

Since the market is always changing, you can never really know what’s going to be profitable from one day to the next. One day you’re able to sell your entire stock, the next you’re holding on to it for months waiting for it to go back up or acquiring more stock of that item to drop your investment costs down so you can sell, and still the next you might find an opportunity to day trade that item buy being off the competition and relisting for higher. When thinking about your items as stock it opens you up to different ways of thinking about the profit you make rather than I wanna make 6 million gold all in one shot you start thinking in terms of how much % profit could I make off the gold I invested in this stock and then undercutters become less of a concern because you’re still profiting no matter what they do.

Get Creative!

Find ways to get people to pay attention to you and reduce the need for them to look to the usual routes to get their needs met. Make deals and trades for more valuable items. Become a producer for someone or a group of people who need what you can produce. The possibilities are potentially endless. If you turn it into a game you can have tons of fun making gold.

More to come:

In the coming days, I’ll build on this guide a bit further and add in some more up to date and more specifics for things you can do to make gold.
